Official Announcement The Postal Service™ will issue a nondenominated definitive, American Flag (2007) stamp on April 12, 2007, in Washington, DC. The stamp, designed by Richard Sheaff of Scottsdale, Arizona, also goes on sale nationwide on April 12, 2007.

The American flag regularly appears on definitive stamps intended for mail use. The stamp depicts an American flag waving on a flagpole against a tan background. The design of the flag was adapted from an undated postcard in the ephemera collection of art director and designer Richard Sheaff of Scottsdale, Arizona.

The stamp will be issued in the following nondenominated formats:

  • Pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) pane of 20 (Item 02700).
  • Water-activated gum (WAG) pane of 100 (Item 106400).
  • PSA coil of 100 (Item 784400).
  • WAG coil of 3,000 (Item 784500).
  • PSA coil of 10,000 (Item 785000).
  • Water-activated gum (WAG) coil of 100 (Item 785200).
  • WAG coil of 10,000 (Item 785300).

How to Order First Day of Issue Postmark
Customers have 60 days to obtain the first day of issue postmark by mail. They may purchase new stamps at their local Post Office™, by telephone at 800-STAMP-24, or at The Postal Store® Web site at www.usps.com/shop. They should affix the stamps to envelopes of their choice, address the envelopes (to themselves or others), and place them in a larger envelope addressed to:

After applying the first day of issue postmark, the Postal Service will return the envelopes through the mail. There is no charge for the postmark. All orders must be postmarked by June 13, 2007.

Item 785000 Nondenominated ($4,100.00 Value) American Flag, PSA Coil of 10,000
The American Flag PSA coil of 10,000 will not be automatically distributed to SDOs. Automatic distributions will be made to APDs only. SDOs requiring Item 785000 must order it from the appropriate APD using a separate PS Form 17. SDOs ordering this item from APDs need not order in master carton size quantities. SDOs should only order according to immediate customer demand (One coil of 10,000 is the minimum order from APDs).
Initial Supply to Post Offices
SDOs will not make a subsequent automatic distribution of Item 785000 to Post Offices. All Post Offices requiring quantities of Item 785000 must order them from their designated SDO using PS Form 17. SDOs must not distribute coils to Post Offices before April 6, 2007.
Additional Supply
Post Offices requiring additional quantities of Item 785000 must requisition them from their designated SDO using a PS Form 17. SDOs requiring additional coils must order them from the appropriate APD using PS Form 17.
