Official Announcement | The Postal Service will issue a 23-cent George Washington definitive stamp in
self-adhesive coils of 100 (Item Number 772000). The stamp, designed and illustrated by
Richard Sheaff of Scottsdale, Arizona, goes on sale nationwide September 21, 2001. The
stamp has the same design and format as the George Washington definitive stamp issued on
February 22, 2001, but has a change in background color and denomination. The stamp art is based on a black-and-white photograph of a bust of George Washington by Jean-Antoine Houdon. The bust - which is signed and dated 1785 - is on display at George Washington's Mount Vernon estate in Virginia. |
