Official Announcement The Postal Service will issue a 32-cent Statue of Liberty stamp on February 1, 1997, in San Diego, California, in conjunction with the SANDICAL Stamp Show. The stamp goes on sale nationwide February 3. No official ceremony is planned.

Designed by Tom Engeman of Carbondale, Colorado, the stamp has the same design as the one issued on June 24, 1994, but with a denomination change from 29 to 32 and a 1997 date. The stamp, which was originally printed by Dittler Brothers, is now printed by Avery Dennison.

The stamps will be issued in new formats of two self-adhesive vendible booklets of 15 (Item 6658) and 30 (Item 6659) and a self-adhesive convertible booklet of 20 (Item 6676).

Varieties Two different messages on the liner.  Stamps, etc was on the original printing.  Domestic Hotline information was introduced in August, 1997.

Two different die cut configurations - 11 x 11 and 11.5 x 11.8.  

Panes exist with and without divots.

Distribution of PSA Convertible Booklet of 20
Stamp distribution offices (SDOs) and stamp distribution networks (SDNs) will receive three distributions of this convertible booklet of 20 self-adhesive stamps. The first distribution of approximately one-half the standard automatic
distribution for a 20-stamp booklet will be completed by January 8, 1997. SDOs and SDNs will make a subsequent
automatic distribution to post offices for one-half of their standard automatic distribution quantities using Form 3309,
Advice of Shipment/Stamp Invoice, and Form 17, Stamp Requisition. SDOs and SDNs must not distribute stamps to
post offices before January 23, 1997.
The second distribution, also approximately one-half the standard automatic distribution for a 20-stamp booklet, will
be completed in June 1997. A third distribution of approximately one-fourth the standard automatic distribution for a
20-stamp booklet will be completed in August 1997. Distribution quantities are rounded up to the nearest master carton
size (4,500 booklets).
Note:Automatic distribution quantities for the 32-cent Statue of Liberty convertible booklet are based on the latest
Automatic Distribution Update effective November 1, 1996.
Philatelic Requirement SDOs and SDNs will not receive a separate quantity for their authorized philatelic centers. The philatelic centers must be supplied their quantities from the initial standard automatic distribution made to the SDOs and SDNs.
Additional Supply
Post offices requiring additional stamp booklets must requisition them from their designated SDO on a separatestamp distribution offices (SDOs) and stamp distribution networks (SDNs) will receive one-half their standard quantities for convertible self-adhesive booklets, rounded to the nearest master carton size (4,500 booklets). SDOs and SDNs will make subsequent automatic distribution to post offices using Form 3309, Advice of Shipment/Stamp Invoice, and Form 17, Stamp Requisition. SDOs and SDNs must not distribute stamps to post offices before October 22, 1997.
